According to Jamie Coutts of Real Vision, who also founded Helios Analytics, Bitcoin needs to break one resistance zone to get back to $100,000. If it clears the mid $80,000s, he says, the move to six figures could happen “pretty quickly.”

Bitcoin has been stuck between support near $81,000, which buyers have defended several times, and resistance around $87,000. Some traders expect a drop into the $70,000s.

Coutts says the low $80,000s hold a heavy cluster of resistance. Three signals point to the same area:

  • On-chain data
  • Spot market positioning
  • The top of Bitcoin’s counter-trend rally in May

Once Bitcoin moves above about $85,000 to $86,000, Coutts expects all that selling pressure to clear and price to head toward $100,000. “We’re very close to that now,” he said.

Coutts believes Bitcoin has already bottomed. He sees dips caused by macro uncertainty as buying opportunities, including any drop back toward $70,000. Compared with its long-term trend, he says, Bitcoin is not extremely cheap, but it is in a zone where pullbacks have historically been good entry points. He applies the same view to other high-quality crypto assets.

He also pointed to the past 12 months, which he described as a clean-out of excess in the market. Together with long-term support for crypto as an asset class, he said, that leaves the market well positioned.

If Bitcoin breaks out, Coutts expects most of the crypto market to gain about 1.5 times as much as BTC. He thinks the next 12 months could be “extremely good” for the asset class.

Coutts also urged caution. He said the global liquidity cycle is now about four years old, which is usually when volatility increases and problems start to appear. He said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent understands that cycle better than anyone and that the administration is trying to manage it.

His advice to investors was to avoid leverage, keep crypto positions sensible relative to their other assets, and hold only what lets them “sleep at night.”

  • Support: $81,000, tested several times
  • Breakout trigger: $85,000 to $86,000, according to Coutts
  • Upper resistance: $87,000
  • Target after breakout: $100,000
  • Downside zone Coutts would treat as an opportunity: around $70,000
