Hog Weakness Continues, as Traders Look to Wednesday

Lean hog futures were lower on Tuesday, with contracts down 60 cents to $1.70.b Open interest was up 5,392 contracts on Tuesday. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $84.58 on Tuesday afternoon, up $1.76 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 73 cents on September 11 at $87.21.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was down $2.28 in the Tuesday PM report, at $87.50. The ham was the only primal reported higher. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday was estimated at 488,000 head, taking the weekly total to 970,000 head. That was 3,981 head below the same week last year.

Dec 26 Hogs closed at $69.650, down $1.600

Feb 27 Hogs closed at $71.900, down $1.700,
