Hogs Face Modest Weakness on Thursday

Lean hog futures were mostly lower on Thursday, with contracts down 35 to 80 cents and nearby October up 22 cents. USDA’s national base hog price was not reported on Thursday afternoon due to thin volume. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 59 cents on September 14 at $85.81.

Weekly Export Sales data showed 30,104 MT of pork sold for 2026 in the week ending on September 10. Shipments were pegged at 27,591 MT, a 9-week low.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back up $1.19 in the Thursday PM report, at $87.54. The loin and rib were the only primals reported lower. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday was estimated at 493,000 head, taking the weekly total to 1.951 million head. That was 9,363 head above the same week last year.

Oct 26 Hogs closed at $78.900, up $0.225,

Dec 26 Hogs closed at $69.600, down $0.350

Feb 27 Hogs closed at $71.125, down $0.625,
